MSHA Training

Mine safety training in the United States is regulated by the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA).
The specific legal requirements for a particular mining operation depend upon the commodity that is being mined.
The requirements are set out in 30 C.F.R. Part 46 and 30 C.F.R. Part 48.
MSHA regulations mandate:
    which miners must be trained
    how much training is required
    who may provide the training
the subject areas that need to be covered by the training.
MSHA training regulations also require certification that training has been completed as well as impose record keeping requirements.

  Required Training

experienced miner training
annual refresher training
task training
hazard training

Mine Safety Training Courses (taxpayer funded)
MSHA's State Grants Program distributes 7.9 million taxpayer dollars in varying amounts to 48 States and the Navajo Nation. The grants are made to the state agency program responsible for miners' health and safety. According to MSHA, most grant funds are used to support health and safety training courses and programs designed to reduce mining accidents, injuries, and illnesses. Arrangements can be made to receive Part 46 and Part 48 training by contacting the grant program office within the state where your mining operation is located.
